Soulful Tunes & Sweet Traditions: Kcrunch at the Nandagovindam Bajans

At Kcrunch, we believe that food is more than just sustenance; it’s an experience, a memory, and often, a connection to the divine. Our journey to bring the authentic tastes of Kerala to the world recently led us to a truly spiritual evening.

We were incredibly honored and filled with happiness to be the official snack partner for the recent Nandagovindam Bajans.

The atmosphere was electric with devotion. As the soulful bhajans filled the air, creating a mood of peace and introspection, we knew our contribution had to match that energy. A loud, crunchy snack didn’t feel right for such a serene gathering. We needed something soft, traditional, and comforting—something that melts in the mouth just as the music melts into the heart.

That’s why we chose the humble, yet beloved, Kinnathappam.

Why Kinnathappam?

Kinnathappam (translating literally to “plate cake”) is a traditional steamed delicacy from Kerala. It is famous for its wobbly, soft texture that requires no chewing, truly a “teeth optional” snack that everyone from toddlers to grandparents can enjoy.

We felt this gentle delicacy perfectly blended with the bhajan mood. It’s a snack that doesn’t demand attention but quietly sweetens the moment. To make the occasion even more special, we gifted the attendees a duo of traditions: the classic White and the rich Black Kinnathappam.

A Tale of Two Tastes

ust like the varied notes in music, these two versions offer distinct experiences:

  • The White Kinnathappam: Made with pure rice flour, rich coconut milk, and sweetened with sugar, this version is delicate, aromatic with cardamom, and has a pure, almost pudding-like consistency. It represents purity and simplicity.

  • The Black (Jaggery) Kinnathappam: This variety swaps sugar for traditional Kerala jaggery (sharkara). It has a deeper color, a richer, earthier caramel flavor, and a slightly denser, more satisfying mouthfeel.

Presenting both was our way of celebrating the full spectrum of Kerala’s traditional sweet heritage.

We sincerely hope everyone at the Nandagovindam Bajans enjoyed this nostalgic treat as much as we enjoyed preparing and gifting it. It was a privilege to add a touch of sweetness to such a divine evening.

Thank you for letting us be a part of your spiritual journey. Stay tuned for more Kcrunch moments as we continue to explore the heart of Kerala’s kitchen!
